Стратегия обеспечения ресурсами территориально распределенной производственной структуры (с несколькими удаленными друг от друга площадками). Иначе говоря, DRP увязывает между собой несколько MRP-площадок, являясь своего рода синтезом MRP и SCM. При этом площадками могут быть как производственные, так и торговые подразделения компании.
Есть и другая трактовка этого термина - планирование распределения ресурсов. В этом случае говорят о DRP как о методологии эффективной организации каналов сбыта.
